Mechanical Design Engineer (m/f/d)

Are you passionate about designing innovative mechanical solutions? We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in Hamburg. This is a hybrid role that allows you to combine to work from our office and from home.

What the job looks like:

  • Design mechanical components and assemblies, working both independently and alongside our talented team.
  • Review and adapt 3D models and drawings to ensure they meet manufacturing requirements.
  • Standardize and streamline mechanical designs by using third-party components, reducing part numbers, and cutting procurement and production costs.
  • Perform structural analysis (single loads or external pressure) using FEA, with a focus on pressure housings and frames.
  • Conduct fatigue analysis for cyclic loads, buoyancy and stability analysis for floating components, and hydrodynamic analysis (including drag force estimation).
  • Carry out simplified calculations for O-ring sealing capacity, mooring tension, flanges, lifting eyes, and bolts, and ensure pressure equipment meets structural capacity ratings.
  • Choose materials based on analysis results to optimize performance.
  • Create detailed technical documentation, including reports, test procedures, assembly instructions, commissioning guides, and user manuals.
  • Coordinate procurement, manufacturing, and assembly processes, working closely with customers and suppliers on mechanical design topics.
  • Organize and lead qualification and factory acceptance tests, from planning to evaluation and documentation.
  • Continuously improve standard business processes and document best practices in our internal wiki.
  • Plan and manage your workload through weekly sprints and work package tracking systems.

What we are looking for:

  • You’re proficient in MS Word and Excel.
  • You are experienced in using SolidWorks or Catia CAD.
  • You understand how to work with any PDM system.
  • Familiarity with FEA tools like Ansys or Abaqus is a plus.
  • Experienced in using MathCad is a bonus.
  • You’re a creative problem solver who thrives on finding innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-first mentality are key.
  • You can handle pressure and stay focused on delivering results.
  • You have a strong commercial awareness and understand the needs of users and markets.

What we offer:

  • A personalized development plan with ongoing training to support your career growth.
  • A permanent contract with stability and opportunities for advancement.
  • Bike leasing options to make your commute more sustainable.
  • An office with a “sea view” right by the Bille River, and regular BBQs on our fantastic balcony.
  • A weekly fruit basket to keep you energized and healthy.
